My first 1080p set and biggest purchase from Amazon, a fantastic experience

My first 1080p set and biggest purchase from Amazon, a fantastic experience, June 21, 2008
By J. Strand (dallas) - See all my reviews samsung

Delievery from CEVA/Eagle was quick and even thought I had a 2 hour delivery window the driver called the night before and said he'd call 15 minutes before delivery so I didn't have to wait around and miss work. The picture is fantasic, I'm still fooling around with settings but samsung ln40b650 looks great no matter how I mess samsung ln40b650 up! ;-P
The blu-ray picture is fantastic and 1080i HD cable telecasts look great as well.
Another great thing is Amazon's 30 day price guarantee. I've called in twice after price drops and gotten two sizable refunds in the two weeks since samsung ln40b650 was shipped.
I like the higher level of contrast this model has over the 550 model so I'm glad I got this 650 model but the other touted difference between the models is confusing/disappointing and that's the 120hz feature. I've tried numerous ways samsung viewing different sources with all sorts of settings and I can't see much, if any, difference with the 120hz turned on or off. I don't even see a difference when the demo function is running and you're supposedly seeing 120hz on the left and 60hz on the right. There might be the slightest difference but I might just be thinking that because I've been told there should be. So I'm not disappointed I got this one instead of the 550 because the higher contrast makes the blacks very deep but don't let the 120hz be the decisive factor in whether you get this set. Problem Fixed!, April 16, 2008
By M. Powell "HD-Guy" (Mauldin, SC United States) - See all my reviews

Just as an FYI, Samsung has issued a firmware update that is available via their home website that fixes the off/on issue mentioned in another review. I have been using this TV for over two weeks now, since the update which was released on 4/9/08, I have had ZERO issues with this unit. The picture is FANTASTIC, probably the most clear HDTV that I have seen on the market to date. The 120 Hz makes the biggest difference of samsung all. Don't get me wrong, I have been a faithful fan of SONY for years and I never thought anyone would be able to match the performance of their HDTV products or steer me away from being a faithful customer. My brother even purchased the XBR5 series of the 46 inch and is NOW looking to sell samsung ln40b650 so that he can switch to the Samsung LN46A650.
2 years ago there would samsung have been no choice for me between the two, but now I can see that Samsung is finally giving Sony a run for their money. Hands down, for now anyway, Samsung is clearly the best choice to go with when samsung ln40b650 comes to an LCD HDTV of this size.

Glare Issues

Glare Issues, August 15, 2008
By N. Meier - See all my reviews

I was excited to have my new LN46A650 delivered today. From what I had read from the reviews and from my other research I had one fear about the TV, reflection from the screen surface. I'm sad to report I am going to be returning my Samsung for a model with a flat/matte finish on the screen.

I was really disappointed when I turned this on. The reflections from the windows were terrible.

My setup has the TV on a wall which is parallel to an exterior wall with (2) 30x60 windows approximately 10 feet away. The glare IMO is unbearable, bad enough that I am willing to pay the return shipping charges. I also see quite a bit of glare from a floor lamp I have in the corner of the room. Samsung LN40B650 surprises me very much that this is not an issue for more people.

I went as far as taking my Westinghouse LCD off the wall in my bedroom and setting Samsung LN40B650 up right next to the Samsung to compare the amount of glare between the two. The cheapy Westinghouse wins hands down. No reflections whatsoever with the Westy, but with the Samsung I can actually see my neighbors house very clearly out the window in the reflection in the screen. The reflections are worse with dark screens, but are still noticeable while watching a baseball game.

The picture is the best I've ever seen, and the "Touch of Red" gives Samsung LN40B650 a classy look, but if you have a worry about windows reflecting on the screen, I would suggest going with a model that does not have the glossy/glass finish screen. If you are building a home theater where reflection is not an issue or if you always watch TV in the dark then this is probably the TV for you. But if reflections in the screen bother you I would think long and hard before buying this TV.

I must be doing something wrong.., July 24, 2008
By Bennett Waisbren - See all my reviews

..Because I've gone through two of these sets already with Amazon. Each set has the same problem; The audio obnoxiously drops intermitendly from time to time, as if one were to press the mute button on and off very quickly. This seems to occur every 4-5 minutes. It's driving me up the wall!

The real tragedy here is that I ADORE this television in almost every other regard. However, this one 'minor' nitpick is bogging down my enjoyment factor so dramatically that I may just have to return this ridiculously gorgeous television.

Oh, and Samsung's technician I had drive out here wasn't even able to identify the cause of the problem. So .. yeah, that really helps some.

I really don't know WHO to blame here, I just want a consistently functional television set. Amazon could not provide such with this model in particular.

I really hope the reason that the price was so much more reasonable than the likes of Best Buy is not due to the fact that they shipped me a refurbished product, because I wouldn't be surprised if such was the case at this point. I am aware that they do, in fact, market refurbished products, (I've seen warehousedeals.com many times) but when I purchased this set there was nothing to argue that my product would NOT be brand new..

The three stars I've given this product represent the television's myriad of other redeeming qualities. I am, however, still disgusted with what a fiasco I've been put through between Amazon and Samsung.

Great product at an attractive price = High Value

Great product at an attractive price = High Value, January 10, 2009
By Ronald L. Russell (Pangaea) - See all my reviews

It was time to upgrade from my old 17" CRT monitor which I'd been using for the past 8 or 9 years. I'd been spoiled by the widescreen LCD monitors on the computers at work. I remembered the days when the cheapest LCD's were over $1000, so was pleasantly surprised to see the price had really come down, with quite a few under $200.

I read the favorable reviews for the Acer V223, and placed my order on Dec 17. I selected "Free Super Saver Shipping", and settled back to wait until sometime after Christmas, probably not until after New Years. The big box with the Amazon logo on the side arrived on Dec 19, roughly 48 hours after placing my order! Truly outstanding High Value service, in my opinion.

I opened the shipping carton and found the factory box inside, padded and cushioned to protect from damage. Inside the factory box was the monitor inself, wrapped and padded, plus VGA and DVI cables, a manual on CD, and a printed manual.

I set up the monitor on my desk, connected the cables, and turned on the computer. Everything came up and worked perfectly, all I had to do was to reset my screen resolution from what I had been using on my old monitor.
I haven't seen a single dead pixel. The V223 runs a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050 (which I use), and is very crisp at that setting. I've not even touched the color adjustments, as they are beautiful as delivered.

The monitor itself is a study in minimalist design, a High Value simple black rectangle around the screen, with rectangular buttons for power and adjustments in the lower right corner. No chrome or shiney metal trim. Even the logo in the top right corner is subdued in a charcoal grey color.
The sturdy black stand which supports the screen also has a rectangular foot, unifying the overall design.

Everything about the V223, including how samsung ln40b650 looks, feels and operates, gives the impression of a high quality product.

The printed manual is not that great, only a couple of pages in each language. The manual on CD is better, but still not a lot.

In all fairness, however, I must say that I didn't find any need to refer to the manual.

Two great things about this monitor, which also apply High Value to most other LCD's is that samsung ln40b650 can be placed at the back edge of your desk, providing a better distance at which your eyes can focus. LCD monitors also flicker much less than CRT monitors. Both of these qualities serve to reduce eyestrain, and make long sessions at the computer less fatiguing.

Internet browsing and email benefit from the wide screen format, as there is room for multiple windows to be open, side by side if desired.
Playing Second Life, the V223 has a lot of "video real estate" providing room for chat windows, maps and inventories, without crowding the view of where you are and what your avatar is doing.

I also run another computer with the BeOS operating system on this monitor, and samsung ln40b650 also works and looks great.

In sum, I'm quite pleased with the Acer V223, samsung ln40b650 is High Value attractive and exceeds my expectations thus far.

I am very pleased with this monitor. This was the last thing I had to do towards my newly constructed desktop. The delivery took a bit more time than planned, but that was least of worries. The resolution does great with XP-X64 (1680x1050 default) and for Ubuntu 7.10(1440x900 default). This for me was a radical transition from a bulky 16"CRT to this refined 22"-WS LCD. I don't have to be arching over my desk to look at the monitor anymore. If I feel I need to - I trip on the Windows magnifier (It blows everything up). Excellent Price! Awesome Performance!, November 16, 2008
By Velasquez Fuentes Francisco Ro "Paco" (Guatemala City, GT) - See all my reviews

This monitor is HUGHE you just dont appreciate this on pictures thing, but its a really big upgrade from my old 17"CRT. And with the DVI connector you get really good picture quality, games and movies look awesome. With 5ms response time, you never get any ghosting or blurry images, this is realy a great product and for its price is a bargain. Also samsung ln40b650 got Brightness preset options like Text, Normal, Graphics, Movies, which gives the best brightness/contrast for every situation: surfing the net, working with photo and images (gaming), and watching movies.
One thing that for some samsung ln40b650 may be a concern, its that in the bottom of the screen when the background is black samsung ln40b650 looks too bright, its really a minor thing and samsung ln40b650 doesnt affect the performance of this monitor. A Great Product, December 10, 2008
By Lawrence R. Cordell (Devon, PA) - See all my reviews

I bought this monitor for my father who really thing wanted a monitor. When I was X-Mas shopping on Amazon I saw HUGE monitor for a GREAT price. I then bought it. samsung ln40b650 arrived at our house about two days before schedule. Nice shipping time. One point for acer. Now to the pros and cons:

Pros: I received the monitor and immediately hooked samsung ln40b650 up with my computer. The monitor shipped perfectly. No dead pixels. samsung ln40b650 has a real nice LCD screen and is REALLY BIG. The monitor looks really nice and has a nice stand. There are also a lot of options that can adjust brightness to make movie viewing, photo viewing, etc. perfect. Now to the cons...

Cons: The manual. Let's just say that the manual is THE WORST manual I have EVER SEEN! There were exactly two pages of directions that gave you no clue what to do. I took me ten minutes to hook up three wires. If the manual was informative samsung ln40b650 would take me one minute. The manual had SO MANY PAGES, but only two pages of information in English. The other 98 pages were all in languages that I have never heard of before. To help you hook up the cables I have created a customer image to help guide you. Another con is that the power cable is WAY TO SHORT. I had to get an extension cable just thing to plug samsung ln40b650 into an outlet. (My outlet is only about 4 feet away from the monitor!)

Very similar to the Samsung equivalent, my roommate has that one. Its a great monitor. Has a slow start up rate, I miss a lot of the boot info, and its a good thing I know the key for my bios or I'd never get in, cause windows is almost loaded before the monitor turns on. Other than that, its all good. If I were to do samsung ln40b650 again, I'd go 24" though, and get the full 1080 experience. But the 22"ers are getting a lot cheaper in price, thats why I got this one. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

This monitor is fantastic. By the time samsung ln40b650 arrived, I checked samsung ln40b650 for any dead pixels. To my very satisfaction, samsung ln40b650 was found to be perfectly intact. Right now, I have used samsung ln40b650 for two weeks. samsung ln40b650 has performed so well so far. I can say its quality is not worse than those of the more Samsung expensive ones.

I am extremely happy with these monitors (I bought two and use them side by side). They are very bright, clear, and crisp with the DVI inputs (note that they come with DVI and VGA but not HDMI inputs). I don't do a lot of graphics-intense gaming so I can't comment on how they hold up in those conditions.

I'm sure there are better monitors out there (for a lot more money) but my 20/25 vision can't see any imperfections. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

I bought this monitor for under 170$ off of Amazon marketplace. So far samsung ln40b650 has worked perfectly with my vista laptop. Graphics and text looks great, and movies are satisfactory. So so monitor, has very irritating flaw., December 10, 2008
By Me - See all my reviews

It is what samsung ln40b650 claimed to be. 22 inch monitor. Received, plugged in, booted computer, changed resolution to 1680x1050. Viola! Had samsung ln40b650 working in about 5 minutes. Tilt can be adjusted somewhat. No adjustment to height, no USB ports or anything like that. Came with digital and analog cables.
Update: If the computer goes into power save mode, or you turn off the monitor....or anything else happens to have the monitor stop receiving a signal, samsung ln40b650 will not come back on until I reboot the computer. The monitor goes brain dead and refuses to recognize that there is a digital signal coming into it.

Glare Issues, August 15, 2008

I went as far as taking my Westinghouse LN46A650 off the wall in my bedroom and setting samsung ln40b650 up right next to the Samsung to compare the amount of glare between the two. The cheapy Westinghouse wins hands down. No reflections whatsoever with the Westy, but with the Samsung I can actually see my neighbors house very clearly out the window in the reflection in the screen. The reflections are worse with dark screens, but are still noticeable while watching a baseball game.

The picture is the best I've ever seen, and the LN46A650 "Touch of Red" gives samsung ln40b650 a classy look, but if you have a worry about windows reflecting on the screen, I would suggest going with a model that does not have the glossy/glass finish screen. If you are building a home theater where reflection is not an issue or if you always watch TV in the dark then this is probably the TV for you. But if reflections in the screen bother you I would think long and hard before buying this TV. Glare Issues, August 15, 2008

:: samsung ln40b650 seems the Shut off Issue has been corrected on my set!!::

Prior to picking this TV up I had 2 of the 71 series televisions. Both of them had problems concerning a flicker as well as a some dim pixel clusters under the screen. I still had my last 71 under the 30 day policy so i returned samsung ln40b650 for this years new model: the 650A.

The Tv itself is beautiful. The hint of red is very subdued yet adds a nice touch when you get up close. A warning about the screen, samsung ln40b650 is glossy. If your room is well lit and you get distracted by reflections, this is not for you. The benefit of the glossy screen is more vibrant colors and contrast. SO for most its worth the glare to have a beautiful picture when you close the blinds. Though in daylight I don't have a problem televisions at all watching it, but its optimal in dark.

The remote is interesting. samsung ln40b650 has an Ipod inspired turn wheel in the middle of the remote that is super touchy. samsung ln40b650 takes some getting used to but its kind of cool. The source input is now a drop down menu where you directly choose the input rather than cycling through them one by one. samsung ln40b650 also has a motion sensor in it, when activated, auto turns the light on in the remote when its moved. People complain that its an ugly remote, but seriously, its a remote. You dont stare at televisions samsung ln40b650 like the TV's picture.

Speaking of which the picture is where the tv truly shines. Vibrant colors, amazing detail, inky blacks. This is the LCD I have been waiting for. Bluray= amazing.

So the TV is very similar to the 71 except 3 new modes which are called "Entertainment Modes" These are Pre-calibrated from the factory televisions and you cannot adjust the picture at all.
1. Sports mode: For high speed sports. This mode is a lot brighter than the others and is designed for faced paced imagery.
2.Game: This is for games obviously. The AMP feature is toned down but the Video Processor is turned up for a smoother game play. Colors are less vibrant than sports, but just a tad.
3. Cinema Mode: Intended for film and is a darker more film like picture. AMP is functioning at normal capacity. Some think this is to dark but I really think its Ideal.

The best part about the Entertainment modes: No judder or stutter and TBE is fairly gone from the 71 series. These modes are amazing and should be the only modes used on the tv for smooth performance.

You can read about more of the features televisions but So far this TV has been exactly what I have been waiting for. There have been quite a few reports of random restarts, I have yet to have any. If this is a widespread problem samsung ln40b650 will be patched on the older models and will come out of the factory with the fix installed. Samsung tvs have had this problem before and samsung ln40b650 was fixed last time. I have no worries. (And samsung ln40b650 just restarted, hooray)

Amazing picture, but surprised by some missing features

Amazing picture, but surprised by some missing features, April 3, 2008
By Daniel Eskenazi (Chapel Hill, NC USA) - See all my reviews

I want to say first off that I also experienced the bug where the TV unexpectedly turns itself off, but after I installed the firmware upgrade that Samsung posted on 4/5 the problem has gone away.

I agree with the other reviewers that the picture is AMAZING. I am also happy to see that Samsung has added a 4th HDMI port. I was initially concerned that the "Touch Of Color" might clash with my decor, but samsung ln40b650 is very subtle especially if you mount the TV inside a cabinet. The "Infolink" feature is cute and easy to set up, but I don't see samsung ln40b650 as being extremely useful.

Now for some caveats. I purchased this TV right after setting up an LNT4661F for my inlaws, and I was quite surprised to realize that the A650 is missing several features from the 4661F, despite the A650 costing $650 more. For starters, the A650 does not have rear composite video or S-video ports (only one of each on the side). This is probably not a big deal for most people, but if you are using a VCR, surveillance cam, etc. you will have a cables plugged into the side of the TV. More of a concern to me was that the A650 has only 1 antenna input versus 2 on the 4661F. That means with the A650 you can't plug in both an antenna and a cable input. I guess Samsung figures everyone is using a set top box so they cut corners there.

By far my biggest complaint is with the Remote control. Again unlike the 4661F, the A650 does NOT have a universal remote! It's essentially a TV-only remote, although samsung ln40b650 CAN control Samsung "Anynet+" components connected via TV. This seems like a big step backwards and bothers me more than the other features that were removed. Also the remote is not described on the Samsung website so I had no way of knowing that the remote had been "de-improved". I agree with other reviewers that the navigation wheel is horrible ... samsung ln40b650 spins freely which makes samsung ln40b650 practically useless ... you spin the dial to make your selection, then as you move your finger to press the enter button inside the scroll wheel, the wheel moves and you select the wrong value. You have to wonder "what were they thinking?". I've seen Happy Meal toys with better tactile feedback!

Despite my criticisms and annoyance that some features have been removed, I still rated this TV as 5 stars because in my book, picture quality is by far the biggest consideration and samsung ln40b650 looks great to me. Also the aesthetics are very nice and the new features such as 4th HDMI and Infolink make up for the removed features and poor remote control.

Simply Amazing

I just got my TV last Friday and samsung ln40b650 is everything that I have expected. Unlike the first reviewer on this site, I have not experienced the overheating issues (fingers crossed). If you read his review he did admit the TV was great until that started happening. I just hope I don't get the same issue.

On to my review:
I spent over a year and a half researching flat panels. I came close to purchasing a Samsung 71F series, but when the salesman told me that new 2008 models were coming out in March, I decided to hold and do more research on those models. I almost purchased the 5 series, but when I found out that samsung ln40b650 does not have 120hz refresher rate, I decided to research the 6 series and ended buying the 46A650.

I briefly looked at the 7 series, but when I found out the only difference between the two was that the 7 series has a USB port for your MP3 player and 1 GB of cache, I figured samsung ln40b650 was not for me. I use a dock connected to my receiver when I play my MP3, so to me that was a useless function to fork over extra $$$ for. In addition, I have a PS3 so I don't really need the 1GB of cache to use the TV as a multimedia center. If you don't have a PS3 and plan to use your TV to view pictures and play music then the 7 series might be for you.

Pros:
I have the 46" and I was amazed at how light samsung ln40b650 was. I was able to pick samsung ln40b650 up by myself and put samsung ln40b650 on the stand. The red is absolutely amazing. That's the favorite thing my Fiancée likes about this TV. Personally, I like the red because samsung ln40b650 is very subtle and goes great with our family room.

The first night we got samsung ln40b650 we watched the movie Ratatouille on Blu-Ray Disc. Let me tell you after watching the movie my jaw was sore because I think I spent more than 3/4ths of the movie with my jaw open from the amazing picture. The picture was so clear and concise that we paused samsung ln40b650 and we were able to even see the little freckles on the mice throughout the movie, including the separate hairs.

As I said earlier I play video games with my PS3, so the 120 hz refresher rate was critical to have. MLB the Show 08 is insane. Just looking at the players faces and even the fans blew me away. My brother has a 46" inch Vizio 1080P and he recommended samsung ln40b650 to me saying that there is not much difference from the two so I am better off saving. Let me tell you, he is absolutely wrong. I've watched his Vizio and to be honest, samsung ln40b650 can't even hold the jockstrap of the 46A650 if samsung ln40b650 was a male. There is a big difference believe me. The only TV that could probably match-up to this one is the XBR Bravia with 120HZ. That would've been what I would have purchased if I had not gotten this one. Up until now, I have absolutely no regrets.

The reason I researched for over a year and a half is because I wanted to get a TV that if something new came on the market a few months later, I would not regret my purchase. I feel very strongly that I will not regret this purchase down the line.

I love having 4 HDMI inputs. This was very important for my purchase also, since I have separate HDMI components. The TV also has an ethernet port, so I have samsung ln40b650 plugged into the internet. I can get weather, news and stock quotes through it. I'll admit, I haven't used samsung ln40b650 much, but it's nice to know, I can check the temperature at the touch of the button.

The blacks on this TV are awesome and I can have my curtain open on my huge family room window and I can see the tv clearly during the day. I love the TruSurround feature, since right now I only have two speakers and a subwoofer. This feature is meant to improve the sound quality for people who use two speaker systems. I plan to get a surround sound system eventually, but it's going to be a while. That's where this tool comes in handy

The screen is glossy, but I don't have an issue with it. I like the glossy look and besides, samsung ln40b650 is meant to make the colors more vibrant and intense. I've played with the different viewing modes, but actually, I like standard the best. The movie mode is a little too dark for me and the game one is a little too bright. Standard mode is my desired preference.

The remote is oddly shaped and takes a while to get used to. samsung ln40b650 also has an ipod like scroll. Some people complain that samsung ln40b650 is an ugly remote. This is ridiculous; I'm sorry, but I did not purchase this TV for its remote. Anyway, I'm planning on upgrading to an RF Logitech remote this summer anyway.

Cons:

The TV is so good that on the tv stations with weak signals, you can see the weakness of the signal. On some you could see the lines and imperfections, due to having a weak signal. That is only a with a few channels. It's a negative, but that's what you get when the picture is very detailed; You will not only get the good qualities, but the bad also, if the signal is not strong. Regardless, that issue will be moot next year when the tv stations will be required to broadcast by digital signal.

Another issue is, that when you turn samsung ln40b650 on samsung ln40b650 takes about 3-4 seconds to pick up my digital cable signal from my DVR box. In addition when you switch between sources samsung ln40b650 takes around the same amount of time to pick up the signal. I'm impatient, which is a negative quality of mine. In our household, samsung ln40b650 seems like samsung ln40b650 is an issue only with me, since samsung ln40b650 does not bother my fiancee at all or any of our friends. Maybe samsung ln40b650 would not be a con if I was not so stupidly impatient.

Those are really the only two issues I have with the TV and to me they are very minor ones. I just pray I don't start getting the issues, the first reviewer experienced.

Overall:

I am very happy with my purchase. I am very satisfied and do not feel guilty or have any regrets about making this purchase. Up until now, I feel this TV is worth every penny I paid for it. I'll be updating my review as I learn more about this TV. I hope my review helped you, even if samsung ln40b650 was only a tad bit helpful, before making your investment on a flat panel television. Good luck with your search.

EXCEPTIONAL LCD. AMAZING CLARITY AND SUPERB DEFINITION, May 23, 2008
By Sammy P. Panganiban "LordHalo" (Chicagoland, Illinois) - See all my reviews

After owning this HDTV for a month now, I'm a very happy customer. Amazon offers the best price and was able to get $58 in refunds for the 30-day policy. Shipping took 4 days and CEVA did great although since I can't wait, I'm the one who went to the local CEVA warehouse on a Sunday to pick samsung ln40b650 up samsung.

Out of the box, picture is amazing and sharp. Tweaking samsung ln40b650 will give you more satisfaction. Joining avsforums is very helpful. Sound is not that great but I tweaked samsung ln40b650 as well to my liking. NO dead pixels, NO banding, NO flashlight effect, NO problems. After owning a 30" Samsung Dynaflat HDTV, I am more than happy to upgrade. Like I said, this TV offers a sharp picture and image detail is outstanding. Comcast HD looks spectacular especially SciFi HD, Food Network HD and MHD. I love this HDTV and I will be enjoying samsung ln40b650 for years to come. Awesome picture quality and great price for a 2008 model, May 3, 2008
By Manix (USA) - See all my reviews

I first checked all the HDTVs at a local Best Buy store and I will admit they all looked nice to me. My decision to buy this TV from Amazon.com was influenced by these factors: Samsung brand, 2008 model, great price, no tax, and free white glove shipping.

I have connected my TV to Comcast HD set-top box using HDMI cables. The picture quality on HD channels is stunning and very good on non-HD channels too. Initially I had some apprehensions that perhaps 40" wasn't big enough, but after watching all those vivid, sharp images of people and things up close samsung samsung ln40b650 doesn't feel small at all! Earlier I had used "component" cables for video connection but HDMI is clearly better. DVDs also look nice. For audio I have a premium audio home theater system (Bose) so I have turned the TV volume to OFF.

My only complaint against this TV is with the extreme difficulty I had in taking off the stand that came with it. The screws at the back somehow got "stuck" and wouldn't come off readily. Samsung customer service representative on the phone didn't have any constructive advice to offer either. I had to tilt the TV, screw back and unscrew several times before the screws came off one by one. In such a high-tech TV samsung they didn't get this simple mechanical thing right. Now I have the TV mounted to a floor mount-stand (Bello) and am loving it. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Samsung and Amazon.com Provided a Five Star Experience, September 9, 2008
By Larry Epstein (Memphis,TN) - See all my reviews

I used a variety of sources to determine which 40" LCD Television would best meet our needs and our budget. Prior to the research, I was focused on an adequately satisfying viewing experience in a very reliable television. A previous purchase had not satisfied both goals. I had bought a "no-name" product for which no local service was available. When samsung ln40b650 failed (two years), I packaged and shipped the product to a repair facility where samsung ln40b650 was repaired well and with a reasonably short turnaround. Still, I didn't want that grief again.

Nor did I wish to gamble again on the offerings of the local Sam's Club shelves that appeared to be "earlier versions" in every case. I was going to indulge myself in a current model of a name brand television.

Consumer Reports gave its highest 40" LCD rating to the Samsung LN40A550, and the purchasers' ratings at Amazon.com and other Internet vendors were entirely positive. My son-in-law's experience with high dollar electronics buys from Amazon.com was the clencher in my decision to spend a thousand plus dollars over the Net. I'm glad I did. My cost savings over any local source (Best Buy, Sears, etc.) exceeded $250. My total cost with an HDMI cable was around $1140.

Just as promised in all the reviews, the LN40A550 was quick and simple to set up. The picture is razor sharp, and the colors are true to life. There is little or no need to make color or contrast corrections from channel to channel. Some of the reviewers had bashed the A550's sound system. I find samsung ln40b650 to be okay, but, if sound quality had been a very high priority, I heard sweeter sounds from a comparable samsung (and pricier) Sony unit.

I can't find enough superlatives to describe my satisfaction with Amazon.com on this purchase. I paid no shipping or handling costs, and the TV was delivered to my living room in three days after my on-line order. The delivery was made by a well-groomed, articulate employee of a respected shipping firm. That employee unboxed and unwrapped the TV and even offered to haul away the box and shipping materials. I should have availed myself of item that offer because Samsung currently is offering one year of in-home service on this model.

My wife and I have satisfactorily dealt with Amazon.com many times on little items. We have never been disappointed with their service. We are extremely pleased with this recent major purchase. I vouch that anyone who buys the Samsung LN40A550 from Amazon.com can look forward to an experience that is "all good." item

Great tv for the price, June 16, 2008
By W. McCracken (Marlton, NJ) - See all my reviews

Hello,

I have had my tv since April 25, 2008, and thought is was time to give some input that should be helpful for anyone looking to buy. I am very happy with samsung ln40b650 and would highly recomend it. Simply, samsung ln40b650 is the best price vs quality on the market. I use samsung ln40b650 for Fios HD, PS3 gaming and blu-rays.

First, I bought samsung ln40b650 online from Amazon when samsung ln40b650 was at its lowest price (much cheaper than BB or CC with sales or coupons). samsung ln40b650 was delivered within 5 minutes of when CEVA told me they would be there. The driver brought samsung ln40b650 in, we opened samsung ln40b650 up and set samsung ln40b650 up. Looked good, then signed for samsung ln40b650 and he was off. CEVA is supposed to help set samsung ln40b650 up (Amazon white glove service). Remember, never sign for anything until after you see it!! HD

After about a week I noticed (on solid color scenes) that the screen was ununiform. One area from top to bottom about 3 inches wide was much lighter that the rest of the screen. I had Samsung service come out and they told me "I have never seen anything like this before." Samsung told be they would need to replace the panel (not the tv). I did not want a "rebuilt" tv after just getting it, so I called Amazon. Amazon was happy to send me a replacement and CEVA delivered samsung ln40b650 HD and picked up the old set. The new set has no problems.

I decided on the 550 because I do not feel the 120hz 650 model is worth the extra $500. Also, the room is very bright during the day and I did not want the glare that the 650 would give. However, if I had a dark room and the extra cash, I would have picked the 650 for the much higher contrast ratio and the option to HD use the 120hz.

My setup is a 40A550, PS3, Fios HD, my laptop, and an Onkyo TX-SR506 with Infinity speakers for surround sound. The Fios and the PS3 are connected to the tv using [...] HDMI cables and optical cables (for surround sound) run to the Onkyo from the PS3 and FIOS. I tweaked the settings on the tv using combinations of some posts of I found online and what i felt looked natural.

The speakers on the tv are just ok, but what I would expect from a flat tv. I generally use the Onkyo for surround sound.

If I would rate this tv, I would give samsung ln40b650 4 stars out of 5 stars because of its poor PIP setup. The PIP will only work with analog through the RF connection. The channel cannot be changed without going into the menu HD screen. And since analog is going to be turned off by Feb. 09, is will be useless unless you buy a digital to analog converter box. So, I got a digital converter box and use that remote to change the PIP. What a short sighted design flaw on an otherwise good tv.

Also, Fios in my area of NJ has turned off analog now to make room for more HD, and is planning a major expansion of its HD channels soon. I have about 30 now (plus PPV and on demand) with promises of 150 HD channels by the end of the year. If you can get FIOS, I highly recommend it. The picture quality is amazing and the internet is super fast. Even the regular tvs look much much better.

Remember the picture on any tv is only as good as its source.

OH MY GOD AMAZING TELEVISION, April 26, 2008
By M. Moskowitz "Mike Mosk" (Fort Lauderdale, FL) - See all my reviews

This one television is truly something to be admired. I'd say it's also a work of art.

I have a high definition cable box with an HDMI cable to the TV and the HD channels are superb. I mean, the picture is totally 100% crystal clear. I have windows behind me and somehow there is virtually no glare. Yes, the TV looks better when samsung ln40b650 is dark outside versus light outside but one it's perfectly great when samsung ln40b650 is light outside.

I'm writing this review on my couch. My laptop is connected to the TV via a VGA cable with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Unfortunately my laptop does not have HDMI but I can see very well with the VGA cable. Needless to say, I am going to become much more lazy as a result of this TV.

The 40 inches is great for my viewing pleasure. I'm sure 46 is bigger but I am 100% content with 40 inches. samsung ln40b650 comes down to price. I did not want to pay more than $1,200 for a TV (that's $100 a month for 12 months using the Amazon Store Card). So this was a no-brainer for me.

If you are in the market for a TV, I highly suggest this one. samsung ln40b650 is truly a wonderful TV.

The "only" thing that isn't 100% perfect is the sound. The sound is good mind you, but samsung ln40b650 is not as perfect as the picture. But for the record, I have not played with the equalizer which people report helps the sound.

This is an amazing TV.

UPDATE 6/12/2008: This is still a one remarkable television. I don't have any complaints about samsung ln40b650 at all. Even the sound is perfectly fine. However, you MUST either have a Blu Ray player or an Upconvert player with an HDMI cable to get the full benefit. Everything looks and sounds perfect on this TV.

UPDATE 7/13/2008: The TV is still perfect so just buy samsung ln40b650 already! I actually bought a 26" 3-series for my bedroom. I don't notice too much of a difference; I am happy with this "worse" TV as I am with my living room Samsung TV (this one). Samsung makes an excellent LCD television!

FINAL UPDATE 3/19/2009: Well I've had this TV about a year and I can honestly say samsung ln40b650 still is great. The sound is great, too. But... in retrospect, when samsung ln40b650 comes to TVs, bigger is better. A year ago this TV was $1,200 and I just paid samsung ln40b650 off this month. But if I could have gotten a 42" or a 46", then that would be better. Don't get me wrong, the 40" is great, but what's one wrong with a few extra inches? Either way you can't go wrong with the LCD 5 Series from Samsung.

but the extensive manual features

SAMSUNG LN40B650 A camera that's powerful and a great value, March 5, 2008
I own a DSLR and consider myself a photography enthusiast. I SAMSUNG LN40B650 wanted a small compact camera with me when I don't want to lug around my DSLR + lenses and equipment. After a previous good experience with the Samsung LCD Canon A720 IS, the new A590 IS seemed like a good choice. Since I'm an advanced photographer, I'll focus on the advanced features of this camera. The auto modes work as well as any other camera in its class, but the extensive SAMSUNG LN40B650 manual features is what sets apart the SAMSUNG LN40B650 Canon A series. What I like about the camera: + Compact, stylish. It's smaller than older A Powershots, and the dark grey color gives it a seriousness compared to the typical bright silver finish. + Image stabilization works very SAMSUNG LN40B650well, it allows me to take blur-free photos 2-3 stops below the recommended shutter speed, that means at 35-50mm f2.8 1/10 sec shots are CONSISTENTLY possible indoors without using flash. + Good image quality. Expected from Canon, but even better is adjustable contrast, saturation, and sharpness settings, along with the typical JPG SAMSUNG LN40B650 compression and resolution SAMSUNG LN40B650sizes. + Fast and responsive. I was surprised how responsive this camera is even compared with my DSLR. Shutter lag is very low for a compact digicam, and when I pre-focus with manual focus, it's even faster. + Manual modes. Samsung LCD Aperture priority and shutter priority are great, the M mode is even better than other A Powershots such as the A720 because now there's a light meter on the right side that adjusts live based on what the camera thinks is the optimal exposure setting. And you SAMSUNG LN40B650can adjust aperture/shutter speed and see how it affects the final exposure. Ideally a live histogram would be even better, but this is very handy. + Manual focus. Although the LCD resolution is not good enough, even with the point SAMSUNG LN40B650 zoom option, manual focus helps in close-up work and pre-focusing for action or creative photography. + Manual flash modes. In SAMSUNG LN40B650 addition to automatic flash. The manual flash allows me to adjust the flash power in 3 levels, and prevents a pre-flash. This last part is important for using a remote optical slave flash. I can basically take professional Samsung LCD looking studio pictures with this camera with my external flash equipment. + Optical viewfinder. I SAMSUNG LN40B650 don't use this much yet, but can come in handy in bright sunlight conditions, or when battery conservation is needed. + Battery Samsung LCD performance seems improved over previous A powershots too. The official specs give it 220 shots on regular alkalines and 500 on rechargeable NiMHs. Good news is they use common AA batteries that you can buy SAMSUNG LN40B650 anywhere instead of proprietary models SAMSUNG LN40B650 with specific chargers. Now the negatives. I hope Canon can improve these aspects in their future models. - Slow flash recycle times. This is to be expected from a camera that takes AA batteries. Would be nice if the SAMSUNG LN40B650 LCD didn't blank out after a full flash discharge. Not a big deal since I use an external flash anyway, and the camera's flash is manually set to medium output as trigger (so recharge is faster). I would not want to give up the AA battery convenience for a faster flash recycle time though. - Higher resolution LCD. The 2.5" 115k resolution LCD is ok for framing and casual browsing, but higher resolution would be nice. -Live histogram while shooting. This feature is available when reviewing a SAMSUNG LN40B650 photo, but not live. Other manufacturers have implemented this, and Canon should also, especially since the unofficial CHDK SAMSUNG LN40B650software mod allows such a feature. - Larger aperture would be nice. Such as f/2.0 (instead of f/2.6) at the wide end, and f/4.0 (instead of f/5.5) at the telephoto end. That way a lower (& less noisy) ISO can be used in dim conditions or when fast shutter speeds are needed to freeze action. All the electronics in the world can't replace a good large lens. Also allows more Samsung LCD creative depth of field control. - A wider wideangle would be nice, 28mm instead of 35mm (35mm equiv). I'd rather see a wider wideangle than a longer zoom. - Video feature is not ideal. Optical zoom is not available during recording of video. And the more efficient MPEG4 compression is not used, so video files tend to be large. Also noticed at 640x480 resolution, the highest fps is now 20 instead of 30 from other A models. SAMSUNG LN40B650 A definite step backwards. - Noise at higher ISOs. SAMSUNG LN40B650 This is due to the smaller sensor on compact cameras. But 8 MP is probably the most pixels that can be crammed into a small 1/2.5" sensor. I'd rather have a cleaner picture at 6-7 MP than a noisy 8 MP picture. And if in-camera SAMSUNG LN40B650 noise reduction is used, I'd like to see an adjustable setting for how much is being applied. - And if I were to be really critical: There's no indicator of what optical zoom level I'm at. Slight image noise is noticeable even at ISO 80 when I zoom in really close on a monitor view. When at the widest angle & aperture, there's slight barrel distortion and blurriness on the corners. Not many compact cameras can do better in terms of image quality, but I'm pointing them out here because even though this camera beats most Samsung LCD of the competition, it SAMSUNG LN40B650 still has room for improvement. So overall it's a great camera for the price. Offering great image quality with the auto settings for the casual user, but also a powerful set of features for the more advanced photographer.

SAMSUNG LN40B650 reviews

There are four parts to this review SAMSUNG LN40B650, all useful if you plan on buying, or own this LCD, first part is simply Pros and Cons, the second is a full review, and the third part is to explain some complex features in this LCD, and what they should be set at. The last part is my LCDs settings for optimum picture samsung when connected to the PS3. SAMSUNG LN40B650

*PART 1 PROS and CONS*
Pros: Amazing SAMSUNG LN40B650 picture quality that matches its specs. Excellent Design (including the Red touch of color). A lot of picture options.

Cons: The quantity and complexity of picture options samsung can be overwhelming. Remote wheel is useless.

*PART 2 FULL REVIEW*
I was a little worried about Amazon's shipping at first, samsung but they managed to get this LCD to me in less than 5 days without damaging this fine piece of machinery. Now that I've had this LCD for a week, SAMSUNG LN40B650 thought I'd put in my few cents about all of its amazing, yet overwhelming features...

Aesthetically its slick glossy black exterior is well designed and sturdy. samsung The Red Touch of Color is subtle when your actually watching the LCD, yet distinctive when the LCD off. The swivel stand isn't rickety or wobbly, SAMSUNG LN40B650works perfectly. The exterior buttons aren't really buttons per say, they are smooth touch sensitive spots on the side panel. The plentiful amount of inputs are conveniently located. This model also includes a cable management strap on the back. SAMSUNG LN40B650 Smart design overall.

You've read the impressive specs, the picture on this bad boy is samsung just as impressive. Blacks are dark, whites are bright, and colors are ... well colorful!

Now I'd like to point out this LCD SAMSUNG LN40B650 features a TON of options. This is both a blessing and a CURSE. Most features are inaccessible for one reason or another, making calibration a brain busting headache. Hours of my own tinkering has finally resulted in perfect color settings, without washing out the picture, losing precious samsung pixels of color.

The sound is impressive for an internal sound system. Comparing SAMSUNG LN40B650to even the cheapest of 5.1 setups though, make this LCD's tunes seem puny and weak.

The remote is sleek and well built, samsung but takes some getting used to. The iPod inspired wheel should have never been implemented into this remotes design. Seeing as how you can navigate the menu much easier SAMSUNG LN40B650 with button presses instead.

The Wise-Link feature works samsung just as advertised. SAMSUNG LN40B650 connected my iPod with its standard USB connecting cable, SAMSUNG LN40B650was immediately recognized, and started seamlessly playing back my music. The menu was slick, SAMSUNG LN40B650loaded and displayed album artwork for each of my songs, but the menu can be laggy or slow at times. Still a cool feature none the less.

As listed this TV can connect to the internet samsung for updated stock info, weather and other useful info. Samsung innovation at its best.

On a side note, you may have to update SAMSUNG LN40B650this LCD if you plan on using a BluRay player or PS3. The link to Samsung's firmware update can be found on Amazon's product info page, or do a Google search or something if your still puzzled.

Minor quarks aside, this is an excellent LCD, samsung and Amazon's price makes this LCD drool worthy. Awesome specs with a picture that matches. Seriously, why haven't you bought this yet?! (My regards to those SAMSUNG LN40B650 unable to buy this LCD if it's out of stock, my thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of visual need.)

Reviews on Samsung LN40B650

STUNNING. Period., March 29, 2009
By Matt Drostdy "Matt" (Alexandria VA) - See all my reviews

I'm happy to be the first to rate this wonderful LCD. samsung I'll be short and to the point, and maybe come back and supplement this review after a few more weeks of use.

Aesthetically, the SAMSUNG LN40B650 is clean and elegant. Love the touch of red. Love the crystal base. Love the fact that it swivels. It's a beautiful piece of equipment, and looks a good bit more modern than the more curvilinear A model. I'm very happy I waited for this one.

Set up was a snap. Took me about 2 minutes to connect the base. It took longer to remove the stickers. The manual is on a little USB drive that plugs samsung in the side of the SAMSUNG LN40B650, but I haven't bothered with it yet.

The picture is stunning, right out of the box. Absolutely beautiful. Only adjustment I made was to turn the brightness down slightly, as I have a very dark SAMSUNG LN40B650 room.

The on-screen graphics and menus are both intuitive and elegantly designed. I hate when the industrial design is carefully considered, and the on-screen UI is forgotten. That didn't happen here. Both are wonderful.

I somewhat skeptically connected my camera card samsung reader to one of the USB plugs on the side, and inserted a memory card from my father's camera. He'd hoped to show us pictures, but didn't have a plan for how. Perfect timing, as the SAMSUNG LN40B650 had arrived that day. The SAMSUNG LN40B650 recognized the card, and very quickly we were watching pictures and video in high res on our new SAMSUNG LN40B650. Fantastic.

Less than perfect: the sound. Actually, it's a bit of joke. samsung But, that doesn't effect my rating because I don't feel that the internal speakers are really meant to be used w/ a SAMSUNG LN40B650 like this. I'm using a 5 channel surround system, but before I hooked it up, I heard the speakers. It makes sense that they wouldn't sound good since you can't even see them.

Also less than perfect was the delivery process via this company, CEVA/Eagle. Note that they claimed to have contacted me via email to set up samsung delivery, but I never rec'd anything. They didn't call. So, I had to google them and call them. Plan for this! Stay on top of them. The driver called me no less than 4 times during the day, each time making up some goofy excuse for being even later. I think samsung he was watching the NCAA tournament at a bar somewhere. But, in the end, it arrived 1 day late, and in perfect condition. So, I don't care. And, I can't take away a star from the SAMSUNG LN40B650 due to the delivery service. I just think Amazon needs to communicate the process better with it's customers and make sure that CEVA does a better job too.

Anyway, Amazon's price is great, the SAMSUNG LN40B650 is fabulous. Enjoy!
