My first 1080p set and biggest purchase from Amazon, a fantastic experience

My first 1080p set and biggest purchase from Amazon, a fantastic experience, June 21, 2008
By J. Strand (dallas) - See all my reviews samsung

Delievery from CEVA/Eagle was quick and even thought I had a 2 hour delivery window the driver called the night before and said he'd call 15 minutes before delivery so I didn't have to wait around and miss work. The picture is fantasic, I'm still fooling around with settings but samsung ln40b650 looks great no matter how I mess samsung ln40b650 up! ;-P
The blu-ray picture is fantastic and 1080i HD cable telecasts look great as well.
Another great thing is Amazon's 30 day price guarantee. I've called in twice after price drops and gotten two sizable refunds in the two weeks since samsung ln40b650 was shipped.
I like the higher level of contrast this model has over the 550 model so I'm glad I got this 650 model but the other touted difference between the models is confusing/disappointing and that's the 120hz feature. I've tried numerous ways samsung viewing different sources with all sorts of settings and I can't see much, if any, difference with the 120hz turned on or off. I don't even see a difference when the demo function is running and you're supposedly seeing 120hz on the left and 60hz on the right. There might be the slightest difference but I might just be thinking that because I've been told there should be. So I'm not disappointed I got this one instead of the 550 because the higher contrast makes the blacks very deep but don't let the 120hz be the decisive factor in whether you get this set. Problem Fixed!, April 16, 2008
By M. Powell "HD-Guy" (Mauldin, SC United States) - See all my reviews

Just as an FYI, Samsung has issued a firmware update that is available via their home website that fixes the off/on issue mentioned in another review. I have been using this TV for over two weeks now, since the update which was released on 4/9/08, I have had ZERO issues with this unit. The picture is FANTASTIC, probably the most clear HDTV that I have seen on the market to date. The 120 Hz makes the biggest difference of samsung all. Don't get me wrong, I have been a faithful fan of SONY for years and I never thought anyone would be able to match the performance of their HDTV products or steer me away from being a faithful customer. My brother even purchased the XBR5 series of the 46 inch and is NOW looking to sell samsung ln40b650 so that he can switch to the Samsung LN46A650.
2 years ago there would samsung have been no choice for me between the two, but now I can see that Samsung is finally giving Sony a run for their money. Hands down, for now anyway, Samsung is clearly the best choice to go with when samsung ln40b650 comes to an LCD HDTV of this size.

Glare Issues

Glare Issues, August 15, 2008
By N. Meier - See all my reviews

I was excited to have my new LN46A650 delivered today. From what I had read from the reviews and from my other research I had one fear about the TV, reflection from the screen surface. I'm sad to report I am going to be returning my Samsung for a model with a flat/matte finish on the screen.

I was really disappointed when I turned this on. The reflections from the windows were terrible.

My setup has the TV on a wall which is parallel to an exterior wall with (2) 30x60 windows approximately 10 feet away. The glare IMO is unbearable, bad enough that I am willing to pay the return shipping charges. I also see quite a bit of glare from a floor lamp I have in the corner of the room. Samsung LN40B650 surprises me very much that this is not an issue for more people.

I went as far as taking my Westinghouse LCD off the wall in my bedroom and setting Samsung LN40B650 up right next to the Samsung to compare the amount of glare between the two. The cheapy Westinghouse wins hands down. No reflections whatsoever with the Westy, but with the Samsung I can actually see my neighbors house very clearly out the window in the reflection in the screen. The reflections are worse with dark screens, but are still noticeable while watching a baseball game.

The picture is the best I've ever seen, and the "Touch of Red" gives Samsung LN40B650 a classy look, but if you have a worry about windows reflecting on the screen, I would suggest going with a model that does not have the glossy/glass finish screen. If you are building a home theater where reflection is not an issue or if you always watch TV in the dark then this is probably the TV for you. But if reflections in the screen bother you I would think long and hard before buying this TV.

I must be doing something wrong.., July 24, 2008
By Bennett Waisbren - See all my reviews

..Because I've gone through two of these sets already with Amazon. Each set has the same problem; The audio obnoxiously drops intermitendly from time to time, as if one were to press the mute button on and off very quickly. This seems to occur every 4-5 minutes. It's driving me up the wall!

The real tragedy here is that I ADORE this television in almost every other regard. However, this one 'minor' nitpick is bogging down my enjoyment factor so dramatically that I may just have to return this ridiculously gorgeous television.

Oh, and Samsung's technician I had drive out here wasn't even able to identify the cause of the problem. So .. yeah, that really helps some.

I really don't know WHO to blame here, I just want a consistently functional television set. Amazon could not provide such with this model in particular.

I really hope the reason that the price was so much more reasonable than the likes of Best Buy is not due to the fact that they shipped me a refurbished product, because I wouldn't be surprised if such was the case at this point. I am aware that they do, in fact, market refurbished products, (I've seen warehousedeals.com many times) but when I purchased this set there was nothing to argue that my product would NOT be brand new..

The three stars I've given this product represent the television's myriad of other redeeming qualities. I am, however, still disgusted with what a fiasco I've been put through between Amazon and Samsung.

Great product at an attractive price = High Value

Great product at an attractive price = High Value, January 10, 2009
By Ronald L. Russell (Pangaea) - See all my reviews

It was time to upgrade from my old 17" CRT monitor which I'd been using for the past 8 or 9 years. I'd been spoiled by the widescreen LCD monitors on the computers at work. I remembered the days when the cheapest LCD's were over $1000, so was pleasantly surprised to see the price had really come down, with quite a few under $200.

I read the favorable reviews for the Acer V223, and placed my order on Dec 17. I selected "Free Super Saver Shipping", and settled back to wait until sometime after Christmas, probably not until after New Years. The big box with the Amazon logo on the side arrived on Dec 19, roughly 48 hours after placing my order! Truly outstanding High Value service, in my opinion.

I opened the shipping carton and found the factory box inside, padded and cushioned to protect from damage. Inside the factory box was the monitor inself, wrapped and padded, plus VGA and DVI cables, a manual on CD, and a printed manual.

I set up the monitor on my desk, connected the cables, and turned on the computer. Everything came up and worked perfectly, all I had to do was to reset my screen resolution from what I had been using on my old monitor.
I haven't seen a single dead pixel. The V223 runs a maximum resolution of 1680 x 1050 (which I use), and is very crisp at that setting. I've not even touched the color adjustments, as they are beautiful as delivered.

The monitor itself is a study in minimalist design, a High Value simple black rectangle around the screen, with rectangular buttons for power and adjustments in the lower right corner. No chrome or shiney metal trim. Even the logo in the top right corner is subdued in a charcoal grey color.
The sturdy black stand which supports the screen also has a rectangular foot, unifying the overall design.

Everything about the V223, including how samsung ln40b650 looks, feels and operates, gives the impression of a high quality product.

The printed manual is not that great, only a couple of pages in each language. The manual on CD is better, but still not a lot.

In all fairness, however, I must say that I didn't find any need to refer to the manual.

Two great things about this monitor, which also apply High Value to most other LCD's is that samsung ln40b650 can be placed at the back edge of your desk, providing a better distance at which your eyes can focus. LCD monitors also flicker much less than CRT monitors. Both of these qualities serve to reduce eyestrain, and make long sessions at the computer less fatiguing.

Internet browsing and email benefit from the wide screen format, as there is room for multiple windows to be open, side by side if desired.
Playing Second Life, the V223 has a lot of "video real estate" providing room for chat windows, maps and inventories, without crowding the view of where you are and what your avatar is doing.

I also run another computer with the BeOS operating system on this monitor, and samsung ln40b650 also works and looks great.

In sum, I'm quite pleased with the Acer V223, samsung ln40b650 is High Value attractive and exceeds my expectations thus far.

I am very pleased with this monitor. This was the last thing I had to do towards my newly constructed desktop. The delivery took a bit more time than planned, but that was least of worries. The resolution does great with XP-X64 (1680x1050 default) and for Ubuntu 7.10(1440x900 default). This for me was a radical transition from a bulky 16"CRT to this refined 22"-WS LCD. I don't have to be arching over my desk to look at the monitor anymore. If I feel I need to - I trip on the Windows magnifier (It blows everything up). Excellent Price! Awesome Performance!, November 16, 2008
By Velasquez Fuentes Francisco Ro "Paco" (Guatemala City, GT) - See all my reviews

This monitor is HUGHE you just dont appreciate this on pictures thing, but its a really big upgrade from my old 17"CRT. And with the DVI connector you get really good picture quality, games and movies look awesome. With 5ms response time, you never get any ghosting or blurry images, this is realy a great product and for its price is a bargain. Also samsung ln40b650 got Brightness preset options like Text, Normal, Graphics, Movies, which gives the best brightness/contrast for every situation: surfing the net, working with photo and images (gaming), and watching movies.
One thing that for some samsung ln40b650 may be a concern, its that in the bottom of the screen when the background is black samsung ln40b650 looks too bright, its really a minor thing and samsung ln40b650 doesnt affect the performance of this monitor. A Great Product, December 10, 2008
By Lawrence R. Cordell (Devon, PA) - See all my reviews

I bought this monitor for my father who really thing wanted a monitor. When I was X-Mas shopping on Amazon I saw HUGE monitor for a GREAT price. I then bought it. samsung ln40b650 arrived at our house about two days before schedule. Nice shipping time. One point for acer. Now to the pros and cons:

Pros: I received the monitor and immediately hooked samsung ln40b650 up with my computer. The monitor shipped perfectly. No dead pixels. samsung ln40b650 has a real nice LCD screen and is REALLY BIG. The monitor looks really nice and has a nice stand. There are also a lot of options that can adjust brightness to make movie viewing, photo viewing, etc. perfect. Now to the cons...

Cons: The manual. Let's just say that the manual is THE WORST manual I have EVER SEEN! There were exactly two pages of directions that gave you no clue what to do. I took me ten minutes to hook up three wires. If the manual was informative samsung ln40b650 would take me one minute. The manual had SO MANY PAGES, but only two pages of information in English. The other 98 pages were all in languages that I have never heard of before. To help you hook up the cables I have created a customer image to help guide you. Another con is that the power cable is WAY TO SHORT. I had to get an extension cable just thing to plug samsung ln40b650 into an outlet. (My outlet is only about 4 feet away from the monitor!)

Works Great!

Very similar to the Samsung equivalent, my roommate has that one. Its a great monitor. Has a slow start up rate, I miss a lot of the boot info, and its a good thing I know the key for my bios or I'd never get in, cause windows is almost loaded before the monitor turns on. Other than that, its all good. If I were to do samsung ln40b650 again, I'd go 24" though, and get the full 1080 experience. But the 22"ers are getting a lot cheaper in price, thats why I got this one. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

This monitor is fantastic. By the time samsung ln40b650 arrived, I checked samsung ln40b650 for any dead pixels. To my very satisfaction, samsung ln40b650 was found to be perfectly intact. Right now, I have used samsung ln40b650 for two weeks. samsung ln40b650 has performed so well so far. I can say its quality is not worse than those of the more Samsung expensive ones.

I am extremely happy with these monitors (I bought two and use them side by side). They are very bright, clear, and crisp with the DVI inputs (note that they come with DVI and VGA but not HDMI inputs). I don't do a lot of graphics-intense gaming so I can't comment on how they hold up in those conditions.

I'm sure there are better monitors out there (for a lot more money) but my 20/25 vision can't see any imperfections. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Perfect Monitor for the Cost, November 5, 2008
By Nathan Casto - See all my reviews

I bought this monitor for under 170$ off of Amazon marketplace. So far samsung ln40b650 has worked perfectly with my vista laptop. Graphics and text looks great, and movies are satisfactory. If you want a big, great looking monitor with no frills, this is definitely the best one on the market. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

So so monitor, has very irritating flaw., December 10, 2008
By Me - See all my reviews

It is what samsung ln40b650 claimed to be. 22 inch monitor. Received, plugged in, booted computer, changed resolution to 1680x1050. Viola! Had samsung ln40b650 working in about 5 minutes. Tilt can be adjusted somewhat. No adjustment to height, no USB ports or anything like that. Came with digital and analog cables.
Update: If the computer goes into power save mode, or you turn off the monitor....or anything else happens to have the monitor stop receiving a signal, samsung ln40b650 will not come back on until I reboot the computer. The monitor goes brain dead and refuses to recognize that there is a digital signal coming into it.
